CSW is pleased to invite you to our event ‘Human Rights Defenders Under Threat’, hosted by Peter van Dalen MEP on Wednesday 7 March 11:00-12:30 in the European Parliament, Room A1H1.

This event is part of CSW’s new campaign, ‘Defend the Defender’, which focuses on the challenges faced by Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) defending the right to freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) in South and Central Asia.

HRDs in these regions advocating for FoRB are facing severe and increasing violence and intimidation. CSW’s report on this issue, which will be introduced at the event, includes policy recommendations developed at a consultation in 2017 by 40 FoRB HRDs from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal and Bangladesh, together with the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Michel Forst. CSW has also showcased the experiences of some of these FoRB HRDs through a series of short films which you can watch here.

This event offers a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from four HRDs from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan and learn how the international community can most effectively take action to improve their situation. We look forward to seeing you there!
