The European Union Office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints supports government relations of the Church in Europe, and contributes to the work of other offices of the Church throughout the world. It also enjoys a fruitful and lively exchange of information with the International Center of Law and Religion Studies (ICLRS). The office focuses on issues related to faith, family and freedom of religion or belief, and advocates with other churches and organizations to promote and secure the free exercise of faith and religion for all people.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is established in over one hundred countries. Religious freedom is a core doctrine of the Church, as memorialized in an article of faith which declares, “We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.” As a defender of religious freedom, the Church advocates that all people should have the right to choose the belief system under which they wish to live. Church representatives bear witness of Jesus Christ wherever they find people who have a desire to learn of Him. The Church also acknowledges the rights and responsibilities of governments. Another article of faith states “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers and magistrates, in obeying, honouring and sustaining the law.” It is Church policy to enter countries with full government awareness, and in compliance with state and local laws. However, the church teaches that in order for individuals to have the freedom to choose their manner of worship, governments need to protect the free exercise of religion for everyone.

Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC), a humanitarian aid program funded by church member- contributions, responds to needs of persons in extremity throughout the world without regard to race, religion or nationality. It has benefitted tens of millions of people in more than one-hundred eighty countries.
